Erika Kirk’s life has been defined by her many roles—a beauty pageant winner, athlete, entrepreneur, Christian podcaster, wife, and mother. That identity, however, changed dramatically on September 10, 2025, when her husband, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated. Overnight, Erika joined a lineage of women thrust into public mourning and the responsibility of carrying forward a legacy, alongside figures such as Jacqueline and Ethel Kennedy, Coretta Scott King, and Yulia Navalnaya.

Erika Frantzve was born in Ohio in November 1988 to
Lori and Kent Frantzve. Following her parents’ divorce, Erika was raised by her
mother in Arizona. Growing up in the Roman Catholic Church, Erika volunteered
at soup kitchens, an experience she credits with strengthening her Christian
faith and instilling a lifelong commitment to service.
Describing herself as a “tomboy,” Erika played
basketball from a young age, later recalling, “I didn’t wear my first pair of
heels until I was 14, but I had a really mean layup.” In 2006, she founded the
charity Everyday Heroes Like You, highlighting the work of under-recognized
organizations.

Erika played college basketball at Regis University in
Colorado before earning a degree in political science and international
relations from Arizona State University. She later completed a master’s in
legal studies at Liberty University.
During college, Erika competed in the Miss Arizona USA
pageant, finishing as first runner-up in 2011 and winning the crown in 2012.
She has said her participation aimed to bring attention to her charitable work:
“That sparkly tiara is only a little plastic hat. What
really matters is making a difference, and I want to change the world. The

Erika was an early supporter of Donald Trump’s 2016
presidential campaign. That year, she founded BIBLEin365, a faith-based program
encouraging participants to read the Bible in a year. Two years later, she
launched Proclaim Streetwear, a U.S.-made clothing line whose proceeds support
her Bible program. In 2019, she began a faith-based podcast, Midweek Rise Up.
In 2018, Erika applied for a position at Turning Point
USA, the conservative organization co-founded by Charlie Kirk. During an
interview at a New York City restaurant, Charlie recalled saying, “Forget this
job interview, I want to date you.” The couple became engaged in December 2020
and married in May 2021.
Together, they had two children: a daughter born in
2022 and a son in 2024. Erika frequently appeared with her husband at Turning
Point events, promoting traditional roles for women and the importance of
family. Charlie Kirk himself noted, “Erika. By far. Not even close. I am a
moderate compared to Erika.”
Erika Kirk Assassination and Public
Mourning
On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk was shot in the
neck in Orem, Utah. Erika was not present, staying with her mother in Arizona.
By the time she arrived, Charlie had passed away. His body was flown back to
Arizona on Air Force Two, escorted by Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady
Usha Vance.
Two days later, Erika delivered a moving speech at
Turning Point USA headquarters, vowing to continue her husband’s work:
“You have no idea the fire that you have ignited
within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a
battle cry.”
Turning Point later announced that Erika would succeed
her husband as CEO, while also continuing his podcast and college speaking
tours.
On September 21, 2025, tens of thousands gathered in
Glendale, Arizona, for a memorial that was part vigil, part political rally.
Eulogies were delivered by Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
Stephen Miller, and Tucker Carlson. Erika Kirk’s 30-minute address stood out
for its emotional depth and message of forgiveness:
“My husband, Charlie, wanted to save young men, just
like the one who took his life. That young man… On the cross, our Savior said,
‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.’ That man, that young
man, I forgive him.”
Erika Kirk Continuing the Legacy
In December 2025, Erika participated in interviews
coinciding with the posthumous release of Charlie Kirk’s book Stop, in the Name
of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life. She publicly called
on former Turning Point employee Candace Owens to stop spreading conspiracy
theories about her husband’s death and advocated for the trial of his accused
assassin to be televised.
